PlayStation Plus in Kenya — What It Costs and How to Pay for It with PSN Cards
PlayStation Plus is the subscription that makes a PS5 in Kenya worth owning — online play, the monthly games, and on the higher tiers a catalogue of hundreds of titles you never have to buy. The problem has always been paying for it: Sony has no PlayStation Store for Kenya, the store you do use wants a card from its own country, and Kenyan cards get declined. The fix is a PSN gift card for the region your account is in. This is how it works, what each tier costs, and which cards to buy so you don't leave money stranded in the wallet. Updated September 2026.
First: what region is your account?
Because there is no Kenyan PlayStation Store, every Kenyan PSN account was created as some other country — nearly always the United States, sometimes the UK or South Africa. Your PSN card must match that country: a US card only redeems on a US account, full stop. Check under Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Country/Region. This guide is written for US accounts, because that's what nearly everyone here has; we also sell UK cards if yours is British.
What PlayStation Plus costs (US store, 2026)
| Tier | Monthly | 12 months | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $10.99 | $79.99 | Online multiplayer, the monthly games, cloud saves |
| Extra | $16.99 | $134.99 | Everything in Essential plus the Game Catalog — hundreds of PS4/PS5 games |
| Premium | $19.99 | $159.99 | Everything in Extra plus classics, game trials and cloud streaming |
Monthly prices went up in May 2026; the 12-month prices have not changed since 2023. Twelve months is the way to buy — Essential for a year costs less than eight monthly payments.

Which cards to buy for each plan
Your wallet is topped up in whole cards, so the trick is combining them so little is left over. These are the cheapest combinations from the table above:
| You want | Cards to buy | Total | Left in wallet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential, 1 month ($10.99) | $15 | KSh 3,199 | $4.01 |
| Extra, 1 month ($16.99) | $20 | KSh 3,799 | $3.01 |
| Premium, 1 month ($19.99) | $20 | KSh 3,799 | $0.01 |
| Essential, 12 months ($79.99) | $75 + $5 | KSh 13,298 | $0.01 |
| Extra, 12 months ($134.99) | $100 + $25 + $10 | KSh 22,698 | $0.01 |
| Premium, 12 months ($159.99) | $100 + $50 + $10 | KSh 26,298 | $0.01 |
Note that a year of Essential is cheaper as $75 + $5 (KSh 13,298) than as a single $100 card (KSh 15,999) — and you're not left with $20 sitting in the wallet. Sony caps a PSN wallet at $150, so for Premium's year you'll redeem the cards one at a time as the balance allows.
How to redeem and subscribe
- Redeem the code. On PS5: Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Payment and Subscriptions → Redeem Codes. On PS4: PlayStation Store → Redeem Codes. Or on any device at playstation.com/redeem, or in the PS App under PlayStation Store. The balance appears in your wallet immediately.
- Redeem the rest if you bought more than one card.
- Subscribe. Open PlayStation Plus from the home screen, choose the tier and the 12-month option, and at payment select your wallet. If the wallet covers the price, no card is needed at all.
- Decide about auto-renew. Sony will try to renew from the wallet when the year ends. If the wallet is empty and there's no card, it simply lapses — nothing is charged that you didn't load. Top up a month before renewal if you want it to continue without a gap.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a US card on file to subscribe with wallet funds?
No. If the wallet balance covers the full price, PlayStation charges the wallet and asks for nothing else. That's the whole point of buying Plus this way.
My account is UK. Can I use these?
No — a US card will not redeem on a UK account. We sell UK PSN cards for that; the tiers and steps are the same, the prices are in pounds.
Can I change my account to US to use the cheaper store?
Sony doesn't let you change an account's country. You'd need a new account, and games bought on the old one stay on the old one.
Is it cheaper to buy the games than pay for Extra?
If you play two or three catalogue games a year, Extra at $134.99 already costs less than buying them. If you finish one game every six months, buy the games. Essential is the one almost everyone needs regardless, because online play requires it.
The code says already redeemed. What now?
Message us with your order number. Every code is delivered through a link that logs when it was opened and from what device, so we can see exactly what happened and sort it out.
Is this refundable?
Only if we fail to deliver the code. Once it's in your inbox it's a live voucher.
