Kenyan cards get declined at checkout more often than not, and the "add funds" page is a dead end for most people. Why your Steam wallet is in dollars

Steam has no Kenyan shilling store. Accounts created in Kenya are priced in US dollars — that's why every game you look at shows a $ price. During the Summer, Autumn and Winter sales most of these drop by half or more, which is when a $10 code goes furthest. And for the free-to-play games — Counter-Strike 2 above all — the $5 code is what people actually want: a case key, a Battle Pass, a skin.

When to spend it: the Steam sales calendar

Steam runs four big sales a year, and the dates barely move: the Spring Sale in mid-March, the Summer Sale from late June into July, the Autumn Sale around the last week of November, and the Winter Sale from just before Christmas into early January. Discounts of 50–80% on games more than a year old are normal. A wallet code doesn't expire, so the smart pattern is to load the wallet when you have the shillings and spend it when the sale lands — a $10 code in a Winter Sale is two or three good games, not one.

Between the big four there's a themed sale most weeks (strategy, indie, publisher weeks). If you're after one specific game, add it to your wishlist and Steam emails you the moment it drops.

Buying for someone else

A Steam code is the easiest gaming gift there is, because it needs nothing from you but the code — no account details, no region worries beyond the currency. Forward the email, they redeem it on their own account, done. For a child, it also puts a hard ceiling on spending: the wallet holds what you loaded and nothing more, and no card is ever attached.

Open Steam on your PC and sign in — or go to store.steampowered.com/account/redeemwalletcode in a browser.
In the desktop app: click Games in the top menu → Redeem a Steam Wallet Code.
Enter the code we emailed you and click Continue.
The dollars are added to your wallet instantly. At checkout, choose Steam Wallet as the payment method.

If Steam says the code is for a different currency, your account isn't in US dollars — check the prices on any store page. That's the only thing that stops a wallet code working.

Frequently asked questions

Can I redeem several codes?

Yes. Each one adds to the same wallet. Two $5 codes are $10 of balance.

Does wallet money expire?

No. It stays in your Steam wallet until you spend it.

Can I gift a game to a friend with it?

Yes — wallet funds can buy a game as a gift for anyone on your friends list, in any country, as long as the game isn't region-restricted.

Is a Steam code the same as an Eneba balance?

No. A Steam wallet code loads Steam itself. Eneba balance buys a Steam key on Eneba's marketplace, often below Steam's own price, which you then activate on Steam. Both end with the game in your library; the Steam code is simpler, Eneba is sometimes cheaper.
