Which one?

Both cover the whole United States. DoorDash is the bigger delivery app in most of the country and stronger in the suburbs and smaller cities; Uber Eats is strongest in the big metros and has one advantage — an Uber gift card works for rides too, so a student can use it to get to campus as well as to eat. If you don't know which app they use, ask. If you can't ask, DoorDash is the safer guess outside New York, Chicago, LA and San Francisco.

What the amounts actually buy in the US

US delivery is not cheap, so size the card to the occasion. A single meal for one person with fees and a tip is typically $20–$30. Dinner for two is $40–$50. A week of "I've got you" is $100.

How to send it

The one thing to check

These are United States cards. They redeem only on a DoorDash or Uber account registered in the US. That is who you're sending to, so it's rarely an issue — but a cousin in Canada or the UK needs a different card, and neither app operates in Kenya at all, so this isn't for ordering here.

What if they already have a DoorDash balance?
