Short answer: no. There is no Mac Mini M5, and there never will be. Apple skipped the M5 generation on the base Mac mini entirely and went from the M4 straight to the M6, announced on 25 August 2026. If you have been waiting for a Mac Mini M5, stop waiting — the machine you want already exists and it is called the Mac Mini M6.

This confuses people for a good reason, and we will explain exactly why below, because the confusion is Apple's fault rather than yours.

Why people think a Mac Mini M5 exists

Three things happened at once.

First, Apple put the M5 chip in other Macs. The MacBook Pro got M5 Pro and M5 Max. The Mac Studio launched with M5 Max and M5 Ultra. So the M5 generation is real — it simply never reached the base Mac mini.

Second, and this is where it really bites: the higher Mac mini is called the M5 Pro. So there IS a Mac mini with an M5-family chip in it. There just is not a plain "Mac Mini M5". Someone searching that phrase is half right, which is why they keep searching.

Third, the rumour sites spent most of 2026 writing about a Mac Mini M5 that was never announced. Those articles are still online, still ranking, and still telling people to wait for something that is not coming.

What Apple actually released

On 25 August 2026 Apple announced two Mac minis, both shipping from 22 September:

Apple rates the M6 at up to 4× the AI performance of the M4, with a 40% faster CPU and twice the graphics and storage speed. The M6 also carries a dual 16-core Neural Engine.

So which one should you actually buy?

If you were waiting for a Mac Mini M5 because you wanted "the next Mac mini at a normal price", the answer is the Mac Mini M6 at KSh 139,999. It is the direct replacement for the M4 and it is a large jump over it.

Buy the Mac Mini M5 Pro at KSh 264,999 instead only if you can name why: you need more than 32GB of unified memory, you run AI models locally, you edit video seriously, or you want Thunderbolt 5 at 120Gb/s for fast external storage rather than Thunderbolt 4 at 40Gb/s.

For coding, study, office work and everyday use, the M6 is genuinely enough machine. We would rather you spent the difference on a good monitor — which you will need, because no Mac mini includes one.

Is the older Mac Mini M4 still worth buying?
