Mac Mini M5 — what to expect
There is no Mac Mini M5. Apple skipped it on the base machine and went from M4 straight to M6, announced on 25 August 2026 alongside a Mac Mini M5 Pro, both shipping from 22 September. The M6 has a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU with 16GB of unified memory as standard, configurable to 32GB, and Apple rates it at up to four times the AI performance of the M4 — KSh 139,999. The M5 Pro is the one to look at if you run models locally: up to 18 CPU cores, up to 20 GPU cores with third-generation ray tracing, up to 64GB of unified memory and 307GB/s of bandwidth — KSh 264,999. iTey Store is taking pre-orders on both now, and the M4 remains on the shelf from KSh 89,000 if you want the cheaper machine today rather than in September.

The 16GB → 24GB upgrade is the one Nairobi buyers most regret skipping
For general use the 16GB Mac Mini M4 (KSh 109,000) is more than enough. But if your workflow includes Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any large-codebase AI assistant, 24GB unified memory is the spec we steer most developers toward. The step up to the 24GB / 512GB (KSh 154,999) pays for itself the first time you avoid swapping between a 100k-line codebase and a local model. We have not had a single customer return a 24GB unit saying it was too much — the regrets always run the other direction.
M4 vs M4 Pro — the real cutoff is unified memory, not the chip name
Most Kenyan developers do not need the M4 Pro chip itself. The Pro earns its premium when you need more GPU cores and memory bandwidth for video, 3D or running larger models locally. Below that, the M4 with 24GB is the smarter buy. When you genuinely need 48GB+ unified memory for frontier-class local LLM inference, you stop asking "M4 or M4 Pro" and start looking at Mac Studio.
M-Pesa till limit is the silent blocker on the higher-end configs
Lipa na M-Pesa has a per-transaction ceiling of KSh 250,000. The Mac Mini M4 Pro (KSh 249,999) sneaks in just under it; anything more expensive needs a split M-Pesa payment, a bank transfer or card. Apple's official service network in East Africa is limited. Display pairing — what we recommend in the showroom
Mac Mini ships without a display. The sweet spot we recommend for developers and creators is a 27-inch 4K monitor in the KSh 35,000–55,000 band — anything smaller and you'll wish you had more screen within two weeks of coding daily. If budget is tight, a 24-inch 1440p is acceptable; below 1440p the macOS text rendering looks notably worse than the panel deserves. Should you wait for the M5? Our honest take
Customers ask us this weekly. The honest answer: Apple has not announced a Mac Mini M5 release for Kenya, so there is no date to wait for with certainty.
