Which M5 configuration most Kenyan buyers actually need
The 16GB/512GB at KSh 175,000 is the configuration we sell most, and it is the right call for the overwhelming majority — browsing, office, full-stack coding, 4K video playback and dozens of Safari tabs all run beautifully on the M5. The 24GB/1TB (KSh 229,999) is worth it only if you specifically run on-device AI (local LLMs, Stable Diffusion) or keep large local media and project libraries. Most buyers who "spec up just in case" tell us later the base 16GB/512GB would have been plenty.
16GB unified is enough — don't pay for 24GB unless you really need it
On Apple Silicon, 16GB unified memory behaves materially better than 16GB on a Windows laptop because the GPU shares the same pool. We have sold MacBook Air 16GB to backend developers running full Docker stacks, photographers running Lightroom + Photoshop, and video editors running 4K timelines — none have complained about memory pressure. The 24GB/1TB tier costs KSh 60,000 more. Skip it unless you run local AI inference alongside other heavy apps.
