iOS 27.2: What's New for Your iPhone

Apple released iOS 27.2 on 26 October 2026 — the first major update to iOS 27, and one of the most feature-packed point releases in a while. It sharpens Apple Intelligence, adds genuinely useful tools across Messages, Photos, FaceTime and the Home app, brings new features to the iPhone Duo, and ships over 160 security fixes. Here's the full rundown and what it means for you.

Smarter Siri and Apple Intelligence

The headline is a smarter, more useful Siri. It can now remember the context of past conversations, so follow-up questions feel natural, and it suggests relevant replies and actions inside iMessage. Apple also expanded language support to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish (these AI features remain unavailable in the EU for now).

Messages that do the work for you

Messages now recognises useful details in a conversation and offers tappable suggestions — add dinner plans straight to Calendar, start tracking a package, and more — without leaving the chat.

Photos, FaceTime, Apple TV and Home

• Photos: Shared Albums gain caption and comment editing, automatic duplicate-photo avoidance and expiry reminders. Apple also added SynthID watermarking for AI-generated images.
• FaceTime: Dual Capture (front and rear camera at once) comes to Group FaceTime, with support for third-party live captions and sign-language interpreters.
• Apple TV: individual viewer profiles arrive, and Multiview can show up to four live sports streams at the same time.
• Home: smart locks can auto-lock after the door closes, or alert you if a door is left open.
• Apple Music: a refreshed black-and-white app icon.

What's new for the iPhone Duo

Apple's foldable gets two Duo-specific additions: Apple Pencil (USB-C) support, turning the large inner screen into a real notepad and canvas, and EdgeLight, which brightens the edges of the screen to light your face better on video calls. Security and how to update

iOS 27.2 also patches more than 160 security issues, so it's worth installing promptly. On your iPhone go to Settings > General > Software Update. It runs on recent iPhones, including the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo. Shopping for a new one?
