Why the MacBook Pro M5 Max?

    40-core GPU — workstation-class graphics in a laptop

Each of the 40 GPU cores carries a Neural Accelerator. ~2× the cores and ~2× the bandwidth of the M5 Pro. 8K timeline scrubbing, Blender renders and Stable Diffusion XL inference run materially faster than any current Windows or x86 mobile workstation.

128GB unified memory — runs 70B LLMs locally

The 128GB ceiling unlocks workloads that previously required cloud GPUs. Llama 3 70B Q4, Qwen 2.5 72B Q4, DeepSeek Coder 33B FP16 all run on-device. No per-token API spend, no data leaving your machine.

~546GB/s bandwidth — feeds the GPU at scale

Memory bandwidth is the real workstation bottleneck. The M5 Max moves ~546GB/s — roughly 2× the M5 Pro and several multiples of any Windows laptop in this price range. 4K/6K/8K timelines stay responsive even with heavy effect stacks.

Larger thermal envelope — sustains peak under load

The 16" body has more room for thermal dissipation than the 14". Under continuous 100% workloads (long renders, ML training, 4K export) the M5 Max maintains its peak clock far longer than the 14" M5 Pro. For bursty work the two feel comparable; for hours of load, the Max separates.

    From our Nairobi showroom

What we've learned selling MacBook Pro M5 Max in Kenya

The M5 Max is the most expensive laptop iTey sells. It is also the laptop where we most often talk customers OUT of the highest configuration. Here is what we tell every M5 Max buyer who walks into the showroom.

If you don't need 128GB, don't pay for it

The in-stock configuration is the 48GB / 2TB at KSh 685,000; 128GB tiers are special-order (WhatsApp for a quote). The premium over the 14" M5 Pro is justified only if your work routinely uses more than 48GB of memory — typically: 70B-parameter local LLMs at usable precision, 8K ProRes timelines with heavy effect stacks, large 3D scene rendering in Blender / Cinema 4D, audio production with 200+ live tracks, or ML fine-tuning. For everything else, the 48GB base or 64GB step is the same machine for half a million shillings less. Memory is not upgradeable post-purchase — but you do not need more than you will use.

Mac Studio is the same chip for KSh 380,000 less — if you never move it

The Mac Studio (M4 Max, KSh 349,999 in stock; an M5 Max Studio is expected from ~KSh 316,250) takes the desktop route — quieter cooling and more sustained thermal headroom. For studio work where the machine lives on one desk, the Studio is strictly better value — no display you don't need, more cooling, and you keep the KSh 335,000 difference for monitors, peripherals, or AppleCare. Buy the MacBook Pro 16" M5 Max only if you genuinely need to carry it.

Local 70B LLMs are real — and the M5 Max is the cheapest hardware that runs them well

With 128GB of unified memory, the M5 Max runs Llama 3 70B at Q4 quantisation at usable interactive speed. Equivalent capability on NVIDIA H100s costs KSh 5–8M, requires data-centre cooling, and ties you to cloud spend. For independent ML practitioners and Kenyan AI consultancies, the M5 Max is a one-time KSh 945,000 purchase that pays for itself in API spend savings within a year if you use it actively.

AppleCare+ on the M5 Max is worth more than on most Macs

Out-of-warranty repairs on the M5 Max — logic board, GPU, XDR display — routinely exceed KSh 150,000 each. Apple's official repair network in East Africa is limited; the realistic out-of-warranty path involves shipping the unit to Dubai or Johannesburg. For a workstation in this price range, AppleCare+ is rational insurance and we strongly recommend it on the 128GB tier. Talk to us before adding it.

Power adapter matters — bring the right cable to your office

The 16" ships with a 140W USB-C adapter and a MagSafe 3 cable that supports fast charging (0–50% in ~30 minutes). If you carry the laptop between home and office, get a second 140W adapter — the included one is overkill but lower-wattage chargers slow-charge the M5 Max and won't sustain it under load. iTey stocks compatible 140W chargers; ask in the showroom.

Who should actually buy this Mac

We will say it plainly: most Kenyan buyers should not. Senior developers and most pro creators are better served by the 14" M5 Pro (KSh 345,000) or the Mac Studio if they don't need portability. The 16" M5 Max is for buyers who need (a) the 128GB memory ceiling for local AI work, (b) sustained peak performance for hours of rendering or training, (c) a 16" XDR canvas for video / colour work, AND (d) portability. If three of those four apply to you, buy it. Otherwise, save the money.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MacBook Pro M5 Max price in Kenya?

The 16" MacBook Pro with M5 Max chip is KSh 685,000 for the in-stock 48GB/2TB configuration at iTey Store Kenya. Higher memory/storage configurations (64GB, 128GB) are available on special order — WhatsApp for a quote. All prices exclusive of VAT. Free same-day Nairobi delivery, full Apple international warranty.

Is the MacBook Pro M5 Max worth it over the M5 Pro?

Only for specific workloads. The M5 Max gives you roughly 2× the GPU cores, 2× memory bandwidth (~546GB/s vs ~273GB/s), a 128GB memory ceiling (vs 48GB on the Pro) and a 2-inch larger XDR canvas. It is worth the ~KSh 350,000 premium if you actually saturate the M5 Pro: 6K/8K video editing with effects-heavy timelines, on-device 70B-parameter LLMs at usable precision, large 3D / VFX rendering in Blender or Cinema 4D, ML fine-tuning, or pro audio with 200+ live tracks. For most senior dev work, photography, and 4K editing — the M5 Pro is the smarter buy.

Can the MacBook Pro M5 Max run 70B-parameter LLMs locally?

Yes — that is one of the marquee use cases. With 128GB unified memory the M5 Max comfortably runs Llama 3 70B at Q4 quantisation, Qwen 2.5 72B at Q4, and Mixtral 8x22B at Q5 — all locally, with no API spend. Tokens-per-second varies by model and quantisation, but the per-core Neural Accelerators in the 40-core GPU and the ~546GB/s bandwidth make this the most capable laptop currently sold in Kenya for on-device AI inference.

How does the 16" M5 Max compare to the Mac Studio M5 Max?

The Mac Studio (M4 Max in stock at KSh 349,999; the M5 Max Studio is expected from ~KSh 316,250) offers the same desktop-class chip approach but in a desktop chassis with more sustained thermal headroom and no display. For studio work where you stay at one desk, the Mac Studio is significantly better value. The MacBook Pro M5 Max is for buyers who genuinely need portable workstation power — on location video shoots, travelling ML practitioners, design studios where the same machine handles desk work and client visits. If you never move it, buy the Studio.

Is 22-hour battery realistic on the M5 Max?

Apple's 22-hour figure is for video playback at moderate brightness — a real but optimistic scenario. Under real coding / browsing / Slack workloads, expect 12-15 hours; under sustained heavy GPU load (rendering, training, 4K export) expect 4-6 hours. The 16" body has a larger thermal envelope than the 14", which means the M5 Max sustains its peak clocks longer than the M5 Pro before throttling — a real advantage on long renders.

Is the MacBook Pro 16" M5 Max genuine Apple with warranty?

Yes. Every MacBook Pro at iTey Store is 100% genuine, factory-sealed Apple stock with full 1-year Apple international warranty. Serial number is verifiable at checkcoverage.apple.com on delivery. iTey handles all warranty claims on your behalf, with in-house Mac repair available at our Nairobi showroom for out-of-warranty work.

Does iTey deliver MacBook Pro M5 Max outside Nairobi?

Yes. Same-day delivery for Nairobi orders placed before 2 PM. Upcountry orders (Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, all Kenyan counties) ship via verified courier within 1–3 business days. High-value MacBook Pro orders are insured in transit.

Can I pay for the MacBook Pro M5 Max with M-Pesa?

Yes. iTey accepts Lipa na M-Pesa (Paybill 522522, Account: iTey Store), Visa, Mastercard and bank transfer. For high-ticket configurations like this, WhatsApp +254 727 415 589 to discuss Sacco-financing, deposit-and-balance, or bank instalment options.
