The headline news: the Fold line splits in two
Since the original Galaxy Fold in 2019, Samsung's book-style foldable has always been a single model per generation. That changes with this generation: the base Galaxy Z Fold 8 (sometimes called the "Wide") is a shorter, wider shape with a genuinely usable 5.5" cover screen, while the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the closer successor to the Z Fold 7 — a taller shape with a flagship 200MP camera system. For the first time, buyers choose a shape and a camera tier, not just a storage size.
