Used iPhone Prices in Kenya: Eight Certified Pre-Owned Phones In Stock Now

Eight used iPhones came into the shop this week, every one of them traded in by a customer upgrading to something newer. They are now listed, graded and priced, and because each one is a single physical handset, once a phone on this page sells it is gone.

This guide lists all eight with their real prices and battery health, explains what "certified pre-owned" means at iTey Store, and walks through exactly how to check any second-hand iPhone before you hand over money. That last part applies whether you buy from us or from someone on Facebook Marketplace.

Prices below are read live from our catalogue, so they are what you pay at the counter right now.

All eight are graded Good, all eight carry a six-month iTey Store warranty on hardware faults, and all eight are listed on the certified pre-owned shelf.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max, a year on

Four of the eight are 17 Pro Max units, which is unusual and worth explaining. They arrived together because a group of customers moved up to the iPhone 18 when it landed, and their 17 Pro Max handsets came in against the new ones.

That matters to you for one reason: these are barely used phones. The newest of them reads 99% battery health. A brand new iPhone leaves the box at 100%.

Here is the comparison that decides it, with the new prices read live from the same catalogue:

ModelNew at iTey, fromPre-owned here
iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GBKSh 169,999KSh 140,000
iPhone 17 Pro Max 512GBKSh 209,999KSh 155,000
iPhone 17 Pro 256GBKSh 154,999KSh 135,000

The gap is tens of thousands of shillings for a phone that is months old and looks it only under close inspection. If you were planning to buy a new 17 Pro Max and a used one with 97% battery is sitting here for a great deal less, the used one is the better buy for most people. You can still see the new range on the iPhone 17 Pro Max page and compare for yourself.

One of them is eSIM only

Used iPhone 17 Pro Max in Deep Blue, 99 percent battery health, at iTey Store Nairobi

The Deep Blue 256GB Pro Max, the one with 99% battery, is an eSIM-only handset. It has no SIM tray at all. Your line is loaded digitally instead of slotted in.

Safaricom supports eSIM in Kenya, so for most buyers this is a non-issue and the phone is simply a cleaner, more modern unit. But if you swap SIM cards often, travel with local SIMs from other countries, or you are not sure your provider does eSIM, pick one of the Cosmic Orange units instead. Those take a physical SIM as well as an eSIM.

This is the single most common mistake people make buying a recent iPhone second-hand, and it is not reversible. Decide it before you pay, not after.

The three cheaper phones

Used iPhone 12 Pro in Pacific Blue with a genuine replacement battery, iTey Store Kenya

Not everyone is shopping at Pro Max money. Three of the eight sit far lower, and each one suits a different buyer.

iPhone 12 Pro, 256GB, Pacific Blue, KSh 42,000. A proper Pro phone: three cameras, the flat-edge design, MagSafe, 5G, and 256GB of storage, which is more than most people ever fill. Its battery was replaced with a genuine Apple part, so it reads 100% rather than the 80-something you would normally expect from a phone this age. For a student or a first iPhone, this is the most phone per shilling on the page.

iPhone 13, 256GB, Blue, KSh 42,000. The same money as the 12 Pro, for a newer phone with a better chip and famously good battery life, but two cameras instead of three. Choose the 13 if you want newer and longer-lasting; choose the 12 Pro if you want the telephoto lens and the Pro build.

iPhone 14 Plus, 512GB, Red, KSh 68,000. The big-screen option. A 6.7-inch display, the longest battery life Apple has ever shipped in a non-Pro iPhone, half a terabyte of storage and a genuine replacement battery at 100%. If you watch a lot on your phone and hate charging it, this is the one.

What "certified pre-owned" actually means here

The phrase gets used loosely in Nairobi, so here is precisely what we do before a phone goes on the shelf.

  • It is inspected and graded. Like New, Good or Fair, based on the screen and body. Every phone on this page is Good: light marks from normal use, nothing that affects how it works.
  • The battery percentage is published. Not "battery is fine" - the actual number from the phone's own settings, printed on the listing.
  • A replaced battery is declared. Two of these have had genuine Apple batteries fitted. We say so rather than quietly letting the 100% impress you.
  • It carries a six-month warranty on hardware faults from the day you buy.
  • One unit, one listing. There is no "we can get you another one in that colour". When it sells, the listing closes.
  • The photos are ours. Taken in the shop, in daylight, not pulled off Apple's website.

What we do not do is call a used phone "refurbished" to make it sound factory-rebuilt. These are honest second-hand phones that have been checked, graded and backed by a warranty.

Trade-in phones or ex-UK imports: which is which

We sell used iPhones through two routes, and people mix them up. They are not the same product and they do not carry the same terms.

If you want the longest cover and a phone whose history we know, buy from the pre-owned shelf. If you want an older model at a lower entry price, the ex-UK iPhone price list runs from the iPhone 11 upwards, with every price published.

How to check any used iPhone before you pay

Checking a used iPhone 17 Pro in Deep Blue before sale at iTey Store Nairobi

Use this list on any second-hand iPhone anywhere. It takes four minutes and it is the difference between a bargain and a brick.

  1. Battery health. Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health and Charging. Anything above 85% is healthy. Below 80% Apple itself flags the battery as needing service, and you should price a replacement into what you offer.
  2. Find My must be off. Settings, tap the name at the top, then Find My. If the previous owner's account is still signed in, the phone is locked to them forever. This is the single most common way people lose money on a used iPhone in Kenya. No exceptions, no "he will remove it later".
  3. Check the IMEI. Dial *#06# and compare the number on screen with Settings, General, About. Then run it through Apple's own coverage page to confirm the model and whether any warranty remains.
  4. Every camera, every lens. Open the camera and switch through 0.5x, 1x and the zoom. Take one photo on each. Then flip to the front camera.
  5. The screen, with a white background. Open a blank note. Dead pixels, discolouration and shadowing hide on a dark screen and jump out on a white one.
  6. Face ID, speakers, microphone, charging. Set up Face ID on the spot. Play a video for sound. Record a voice memo and play it back. Plug in a charger and watch it register.
  7. Ask for the receipt. Without one you have no warranty claim and no proof the phone is yours.

Every phone on this page has already been through all seven checks. You are welcome to repeat them in the shop before you pay, and we would rather you did.

Where these phones come from

All eight arrived through our trade-in programme. A customer brings in their current iPhone, we value it on the spot, the agreed amount comes straight off the price of the new one, and they walk out the same day.

That is also the answer to "how do I afford a 17 Pro Max". If you are holding a recent iPhone, its value is probably larger than you think. The published figures are on the trade-in page, and they are what we actually pay rather than an opening offer.

Buying, paying and delivery

Checkout is the same as the rest of the shop. M-Pesa, Visa, Mastercard or bank transfer. Free delivery within Nairobi and courier nationwide, usually one to three days.

One thing to know if you are paying from abroad for family here: a card issued outside Kenya takes up to three working days to clear, and we dispatch once the money has cleared, not when the payment is started. M-Pesa and Kenyan cards clear the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Are these phones refurbished or just used?

Used. They are second-hand iPhones taken in on trade-in, inspected and graded by us, not rebuilt in a factory. We publish the grade and the battery health so you know exactly what you are buying.

How much is a used iPhone 17 Pro Max in Kenya?

At iTey Store today, a 256GB iPhone 17 Pro Max in Good condition is KSh 140,000 and the 512GB is KSh 155,000. New, the same 256GB phone starts at KSh 169,999.

What warranty do I get on a used iPhone?

Six months from iTey Store, covering hardware faults, on every certified pre-owned phone.

What battery health should I accept?

Above 85% is healthy for a used phone. Below 80% the battery is near the end of its useful life and Apple flags it for service. The phones on this page run from 93% to 100%.

Can I pay in instalments?

Payment options are the ones at checkout: M-Pesa, card and bank transfer. Talk to us in the shop about combining a trade-in with your payment, which is how most people close the gap.

Can I see the phone before buying?

Yes, and we prefer it. The shop is at Cookie House, Accra Road, 3rd Floor, Store 311, Nairobi CBD, Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM. Come and run the checks yourself.

What happens if the phone develops a fault?

Bring it back with your receipt inside the six months and we handle it. That is what the warranty is for, and it is the main reason to buy a used iPhone from a shop rather than from a stranger.

Do you have more used iPhones coming?

Yes. Trade-ins come in continuously, so the shelf changes week to week. What is listed on the certified pre-owned page at any moment is what is physically in the shop.
