Steam Deck OLED Full Specs
Why the Steam Deck OLED?
7.4" HDR OLED · 90Hz — best handheld screen in 2026
Lighter games (Hades, Stardew Valley, Dead Cells) look genuinely stunning. 1000 nit HDR peak, 110% P3 colour. Outdoor visibility is excellent. The screen alone is worth the upgrade over the LCD model.
Plays your entire Steam library — 30,000+ games
Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Spider-Man Remastered, Sekiro — all playable at 30-60 FPS. SteamOS handles the Linux compatibility automatically via Proton.
Hall Effect joysticks — drift-free for the life of the device
Unlike Nintendo Switch (or even PS5 controllers), the OLED's Hall Effect magnetic sensors don't develop stick drift. Five-year service life on the sticks alone.
It's a Linux PC — install anything
Run Epic Games Store, GOG, emulators (Switch / PS2 / GameCube), Xbox Cloud Gaming, even Windows dual-boot. The Steam Deck is the most flexible gaming device sold in Kenya.

What we've learned selling Steam Deck OLED in Kenya
iTey is one of the only verified Steam Deck retailers in Kenya. The Deck is a niche but loyal product — buyers tend to be specific about what they need. Here is what we tell every customer who picks one up.
512GB is enough for 80% of buyers — the 1TB is for backlog hoarders
The 512GB OLED at KSh 94,999 fits roughly 6-12 AAA games depending on title (Cyberpunk is ~70GB, Elden Ring ~60GB, Baldur's Gate 3 ~120GB). Most active players cycle between 3-5 installed games and uninstall the rest from Steam Cloud. The 1TB at KSh 110,000 is worth it only if you (a) have a 200+ game library and want most installed locally, (b) play very large open-world games back-to-back, or (c) plan to install Windows dual-boot. For most buyers, save the KSh 20,000 and buy a 1TB microSD card later if you fill the 512.
The OLED screen is the upgrade — don't buy the original LCD model
Valve has discontinued the original Steam Deck LCD. If anyone in Nairobi sells you an "original Steam Deck" in 2026, it's either old stock at marked-up pricing or grey market. The OLED is materially better in every measurable way — screen, battery, RAM speed, Wi-Fi, weight. There is no reason to buy the LCD model anymore.
Buy the docking station if you have a TV — it's a console replacement
With the official dock (or any USB-C hub with HDMI output), the Steam Deck OLED becomes a full TV gaming console. It outputs 4K to your TV, supports Bluetooth controllers (PS5 DualSense, Xbox, Pro Controller all work). For Kenyan buyers who don't want a PS5 + Switch + gaming PC, the Steam Deck + dock at KSh ~90,000 total is a one-device alternative.
Wi-Fi 6E matters for game downloads — and most Kenyan routers don't have it
The OLED has Wi-Fi 6E (tri-band). If your home router is Wi-Fi 5 (typical Safaricom / Zuku / Faiba supplied routers), you get Wi-Fi 5 speeds — typically 100-300 Mbps. Game downloads of 70-100GB take hours on these connections. For frequent downloaders, upgrade to a Wi-Fi 6 / 6E router. iTey stocks compatible TP-Link / Asus / Netgear routers if you want a bundle.
Why iTey Steam Deck prices look higher than grey-market Eastleigh quotes
Grey-market Steam Decks in Kenya are typically (a) used units sold as new, (b) original LCD models passed off as OLED, or (c) units imported through grey channels with no warranty path. Valve's official warranty does not cover grey-market units — if your Deck fails, you ship it to the US at your cost. iTey ships only sealed Valve stock with a warranty path we honour locally. The KSh 5,000-12,000 price gap is what the warranty costs.
Who probably should not buy the Steam Deck
If you primarily play competitive shooters (Valorant, CS2, Apex), the Deck is the wrong tool — Linux compatibility and 200ms latency to Steam servers in Europe make competitive play frustrating. If you only play console-exclusive titles (God of War, Spider-Man, Mario), the Deck obviously won't help. The Deck wins for single-player PC games, indie titles, emulation, and players who already have a Steam library. Honest about what it is.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Steam Deck OLED price in Kenya?
The Steam Deck OLED 512GB starts at KSh 94,999 at iTey Store Kenya. The 1TB model is KSh 110,000. Both prices exclusive of VAT. Free same-day Nairobi delivery, full manufacturer warranty. We are one of the only verified retailers in Kenya stocking genuine sealed Valve Steam Deck OLED units.
What's the difference between Steam Deck OLED and the original LCD model?
Six material upgrades: (1) 7.4" HDR OLED display vs the original 7" LCD — much better colour, contrast, and outdoor visibility. (2) 90Hz refresh rate vs 60Hz. (3) Faster 6400 MT/s LPDDR5 RAM (vs 5500). (4) Larger 50Whr battery — meaningfully longer life. (5) Wi-Fi 6E vs Wi-Fi 5. (6) Lighter at ~640g. The chipset is the same architecture as the original but slightly refined. The OLED is the version to buy — the LCD model has been discontinued by Valve.
Can the Steam Deck OLED actually play modern games?
Yes — and very well. Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, Spider-Man Remastered, Hollow Knight Silksong, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4 Remake all run at solid 30-60 FPS depending on settings. The 90Hz HDR OLED makes lighter games (Hades, Stardew Valley, Dead Cells) look genuinely stunning. Performance roughly matches a current-gen mid-range gaming laptop — but in a portable form factor.
Does Steam Deck OLED work with Kenyan internet (multiplayer, Steam Cloud)?
Yes. Wi-Fi 6E gives you the fastest wireless connection of any handheld currently sold in Kenya. Steam Cloud saves your progress so you can pick up on any other PC. Online multiplayer works fine on typical Kenyan home fibre / 5G — Steam servers in Europe give Kenyan players ~150-200ms latency, playable for most games (not competitive shooters).
Can the Steam Deck OLED play non-Steam games?
Yes. You can install Emulators (RetroArch, EmuDeck for Switch / PS2 / Dreamcast / GameCube / etc.), Epic Games Store via Heroic, GOG, itch.io, and even Xbox Game Pass via cloud streaming. The Steam Deck is technically a Linux PC — you can install Windows, dual-boot, or use it as a portable Linux dev machine.
Does iTey Store sell Steam Deck OLED accessories?
Yes. iTey stocks the official Steam Deck Docking Station, third-party docks, screen protectors, carrying cases (hardshell), 64GB-512GB microSD cards for storage expansion, and USB-C hubs for TV mode. Bundle pricing available — ask in the showroom.
Is the Steam Deck OLED at iTey genuine Valve stock with warranty?
Yes. 100% genuine, factory-sealed Valve stock with full manufacturer warranty. iTey is one of the few verified retailers in Kenya importing Steam Decks directly through proper channels. Serial verifiable, warranty path supported locally from our Cookie House, Accra Road showroom.
Can I pay for the Steam Deck OLED with M-Pesa?
Yes. iTey accepts Lipa na M-Pesa (Paybill 522522, Account: iTey Store), Visa, Mastercard and bank transfer. Same-day delivery in Nairobi for orders before 2 PM. Upcountry shipping 1–3 business days.
