Switch 2, OLED, or original — which is the right gift
Switch 2 (the 2025 model) is the future-proof buy if budget allows — 1080p handheld, 4K docked, all current and future first-party support. OLED is the still-excellent 2021 model with a brilliant handheld screen but no 4K dock. The original Switch is now a budget option suitable for kids under 10 or as a second handheld. Joy-Con drift is real — buy a backup pair earlier than you think
Stick drift hits Joy-Cons between 12 and 18 months of moderate use. Nintendo's official repair path in Kenya is impractical (ship to Europe, weeks of turnaround). The realistic fix is replacement.
